Plantation Pine Products Successfully Completes 2024 Planting Season, Prepares for Future Growth
Plantation Pine Products is excited to announce the successful completion of its 2024 planting season. Over the past 12 months, we planted an impressive 2.7 million seedlings across seven plantations, covering 1,540 hectares of softwood and an additional 113 hectares of Eucalyptus nitens at our Jenolan site.
This year’s efforts build on the success of our 2023 planting season, which saw 2.6 million trees planted across 1,900 hectares. We continue to push the boundaries of efficiency, sustainability, and regional employment opportunities, solidifying our role as a key player in Australia’s forestry sector.
Our 2024 planting season not only marks a significant investment in the future of our wood supply but also ensures that we remain aligned with the growing demand for timber products. With Australia’s construction industry projected to see a threefold increase in softwood timber demand by 2050, initiatives like ours will be critical to maintaining a secure and renewable supply of wood. As part of this program, we have assisted 2 separate private landowners in establishing plantations. We contract planted 230ha for private growers allowing them to benefit in the growing carbon market and secure future additional revenue streams for their property.
Sustainability in forestry goes beyond environmental impact—it also plays a vital role in supporting local communities. Plantation Pine Products' operations create employment opportunities in rural and regional areas, driving economic development in regions where forestry is a major industry. By investing in the future of Australia’s timber supply, we ensure long-term job security for those who rely on this sector, from planting and maintenance to harvesting and processing
By managing over 7,200 hectares of established plantations sustainably, Plantation Pine Products is proud to contribute to the future of Australia’s timber industry. Our long-term vision includes both short and long rotation harvesting options, allowing us to optimise yield while maintaining environmental stewardship. Once matured, the harvested timber will be transported to our state-of-the-art Oberon facilities for processing into engineered wood products, from decorative boards to structural flooring, by Australian Panels.
Looking ahead, we are pleased to announce that we have secured our 2025 establishment program, which will see an additional 1,500 hectares of softwood and hardwood species planted to meet increasing demand, including the expansion of our estate into Victoria to assist in fibre needs for our Mt Gambier expansion.
Plantation Pine Products remains committed to advancing sustainable forestry operations, supporting regional communities, and cultivating tomorrow’s forests for future generations.
